Hi my name is Danielle Byrne. I am 24 and in my senior year at UNCG. I played softball for UNCG from 2002-2006, then returned home to Florida. I am now finishing my degree through distance learning so I can be close to my family back here in Florida. I currently work for Chilis grill and bar as a bartender. Once I finish my degree I plan on getting a graduate assistant's position at a university somewhere completely now, where I can coach softball and earn my masters at the same time. I have no kids, but I do have a jack russell terrier named Marli who is close enough!
I feel a problem with pop culture today is the image that people, especially females, have to have the perfect body, best clothes, most expensive purses etc. My twelve year old cousin demanded she get a coach purse for christmas because she saw it on some show on mtv. Women in magazines and on tv are airbrushed to have perfect bodies and flawless skin. It can be degrading and make our impressionable youth have unreal expectations. Even though I am still relatively young, I feel as though times are so different from my childhood. I remember playing outside for hours and hours until my mom had to drag me in kicking and screaming. Today kids are surrounded by internet, video games, and tv. While these are amazing advances in technology and helps us daily get through life. There is such thing as too much of a good thing. Especially children are exposed to way too much,
